Ikerlari batzuen ustez bele hegaztiaren izenetik atera zen. Beste batzuek jatorria Beila izenean ikusten dute, Bela bitarteko zela^[1]. Izen hau nahiko erabilia izan zen Erdi Aroan. Lehen aldiz XII. mendean aurkitu daiteke, Artaxoan (Berasco Aoçavala).

Beraskoren Erdi Aroko patronimikoa Beraskoitz zen^[2].

Izen hau Beraskoain herri izenaren jatorria da.
