The Star Spangled Banner 1931en bihurtu zen Estatu Batuetako ereserki ofiziala, nahiz eta Armadak lehenago zuen ereserkitzat.
Normalean, lehen estrofa baino ez da abesten. Protokoloak dio (1942ko Nazional Ereserki Kodeak hain zuen) ereserkia entzutean kapela kenduta, zutik eta banderari begira egon behar dela eta bandera ez izatekotan musikariei.

Hitzak, Francis Scott Keyk, 35 urteko abokatua eta esperientzia gabeko poeta, idatzi zuen. 1814ko irailaren 14an, 1812ko Erresuma Batuaren aurkako gudan, Baltimoreko McHenry gotorlekua presoa zegoela, estatubatuarrek gotorlekua irabazi eta bandera dardar ikusi ondoren, segidan idatzi zuen poema.

Nuestro himno (euskaraz Gure ereserkia), 2006ko apirilaren 28an egindako proposamena zen. Ereserkiaren gaztelaniazko bertsioaz baliatuz, legez kontrako etorkinen egoera salatu nahi zen. Hala ere, George W. Bush presidenteak ez zuen onartu bertsioa.
