Deutsch: „Auf goldenem (gelbem) Felde einen roten mit goldener (gelber) Pflugschar belegten Dreiberg, auf dem eine grüne Linde steht.“ Der Gemeinde ist mit Urkunde des Oberpräsidenten der Provinz Westfalen vom 10. Juni 1938 das Recht zur Führung eines Wappens verliehen worden. Das Wappen von Altenberge ist "redend", welches durch den Dreiberg hervorgehoben wird. Die auf ihm stehende Gerichtslinde erinnert an den Freistuhl, der "in publica strata regia quae dicitur Konynges strate" lag. Die Pflugschar weißt auf die Landwirtschaft hin.
English: „Or, above a triple mountain gules with a plowshare Or, a tilia tree vert.“ The arms were granted on June 10, 1938. The arms show a red mountain, which is a canting element (Berge), and at the same time is a main geographical landmark in the municipality, as the town is built on some hills. On top of the mountain is a tilia tree, symbol for the court that was held here in medieval times. The plough iron is a symbol of agriculture.
