Kolore gabeko kristal gardenetan edo kristal hauts gisa agertzen da. Uretan, alkoholean eta [[eter]]rean urtzen da. Ezaugarri optiko bereziak ditu. Molekulak bi [[karbono]] atomo asimetriko ditu, eta ondorioz, ezaugarri optiko desberdinak dituzten lau molekula era daitezke.
