John Ray
John Ray, (Black Notley, Ingalaterra, 1627ko azaroaren 29a - ibidem, 1705eko urtarrilaren 17a), naturista britainiarra izan zen. Bere lanik nagusia Historia generalis plantarum liburua da.

1664an Francis Willughbyrekin batera 391 sarrera dituen latina-okzitaniera-gaztelania-arabiera-mendebaleko euskara ("Latine", "Provencel", "Hispanice", "African" eta "Biscay") hiztegia idazti zuen, Europan barna bidaian ibili ondoren.
Biologia modernoaren aitzindaria izan zen. Biologia sistematikoaren oinarriak jarri zituen; animalien eta landareen sailkapen zehatza egin zuen. Landare kotiledoi-bakarrak eta kotiledoi-bikoak desberdindu zituen lehena izan zen, baita mota kontzeptua ere, gaur egun erabiltzen den zentzuan, definitu eta azaldu zuena ere. Obra nagusiak: Ornithologia (1676), Methodus plantarum nova (1682), Historia generalis plantarum (1686-1704), The Wisdom of God Manifested in the Works of the Creation (1691) eta Historia insectorum (1710. urtean argitaratua).[1]
