English: Holborn Circus Prince Albert, the Prince Consort, on horseback doffs his hat towards the J Sainsbury's headquarters building at 33 Holborn Circus.
The statue was designed by the sculptor Charles Bacon and was unveiled in 1874. It shows Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria, in the dress of a Field Marshal, returning a salute. J Sainsbury moved to the building, which was a redevelopment of the Mirror Group's former head office, in 2001. However in 2007 it was reported that Sainsbury's were to leave the building in 2011 for less lavish surroundings. Holborn Circus is at the junction of 6 roads, Holborn, Hatton Garden, Charterhouse Street, Holborn Viaduct, St Andrews Street and New Fetter Lane. |
